The Mac OS is always evolving and in 2011 the release of OS X 10.7 (Lion) made a lot of people unhappy with the removal of the scroll bar. - In the top left-hand corner click the Apple Menu ()
- From the Apple menu select System Preferences
- On the system preferences select General
- Now in the general box tick show scroll bars to “Always”

How to Always Show the Scroll Bar on a Mac
If you want to Always Show Scroll Bars in Mac OS then the steps are not too hard to get it to show up.
The auto setting is generally set up to show the scroll bar when you actually scroll. The reason for this is to save screen space and give that space to the user. However, many just don’t get along with this setup so let us get on with putting it back.
Step 1. In the top left-hand corner click the Apple Menu ()
Step 2. From the Apple menu select System Preferences
Step 3. On the system preferences select General
Step 4. Now in the general box tick show scroll bars to “Always“

As you can see in the image below any window on the Mac will always show the scroll bar. Both the main window and the sidebar have the sidebar visible.
