- In the top left-hand corner click the Apple Menu ()
- From the apple menu select About This Mac
- On the about this Mac box select the Overview tab
- Your Mac Model Year will be displayed after the name of your Mac

Find Out Which MacBook Model You Currently Own
Because Apple doesn’t update the name of the Macbook Air, Pro some unscrupulous sellers can try to pass off an old Macbook as a newer one.
This can bring them a greater price but leave you out of pocket so knowing how to find the Mac model year is crucial if you are buying a second-hand model.
Step 1. In the top left-hand corner click the Apple Menu ()
Step 2. From the apple menu select About This Mac
Step 3. On the about this Mac box select the Overview tab
Step 4. Your Mac Model Year will be displayed after the name of your Mac
As you can see in the image below MacBook Air (M1,2020) indicates this is a 2020 Mac
Check the Age of a Non-working MacBook
If you are buying a MacBook that is non-working in the hope of getting it working then a crucial part will be knowing the age of the MacBook.
All MacBooks have small print on the underside of the MacBook and within this small print, there will be a serial number.
Note down the serial number and head over to the Apple Check Coverage page where you will be able to enter the serial number to reveal the age of the Mac.
