How to Hide or Unhide Mac Dock

Your Mac dock is something that is always there. Yet, if you want to utilize the enter screen space and hide the dock. Then I will show you How to Hide the Mac dock to get the most from your screen.

  1. In the top left-hand corner click the Apple Menu ()
  2. From the Apple menu select System Settings
  3. On the System Settings select Desktop & Dock
  4. Select the tab “Automatically hide and show the Dock

How to Hide or Unhide Mac Dock

The Mac dock takes up a lot of retail space on the screen. Yet, if you are like me, the Mac dock will be a well-used part of your Mac.

The way we hide the dock in this guide you will still have full access to it. So let’s get into how to hide your dock on the Mac

Step 1. In the top left-hand corner click the Apple Menu ()

Step 2. From the Apple menu select System Settings

Step 3. On the System Settings select Desktop & Dock

Step 4. Select the tab “Automatically hide and show the Dock”

If you tab on the “Automatically hide and show the Dock” button the dock will disappear from view. Yet, when you hover over the dock area it will reappear for you to use.

Hide Mac Dock With Keyboard Shortcut

Using Mac keyboard shortcuts on the mac can speed up many processes, and hundreds can help you out.

To hide the Mac dock with a keyboard shortcut press Option (⌥) + Command (⌘) + D the dock will be hidden.

When you hover over the dock area the dock will reappear. If you want the reinstate the dock you can press again Option (⌥) + Command (⌘) + D.

Turn On/Off Dock Hiding

As with most things with the macOS, there are a number of ways to tackle one issue. While this could cause confusion I feel Apple has the right balance. Even though there is a third way to hide the Mac dock.

Right-click on the faint line next to the Bin a popup window will appear where you can choose to “Turn Hiding On“.
