- From the Apple menu select System Preferences
- On the system preferences select Sound
- Select the “Sound Effect” tab
- Check the “Play Sound on Startup” box to turn the startup sound on or off

The start-up sound on the Mac can become a real nuisance especially when you are working in a quiet environment.

How Do You Mute Mac startup sound Using the Keyboard on Mac?
While there are no dedicated mac keyboard shortcuts to mute the startup sound there is a workaround.
Pressing “F10” on the Mac will completely mute your Mac and also mute the Mac startup boot sound. This needs to be pressed before shutting down your Mac to take effect.
